Setting up PPTP VPN on Xiaomi

Configuring a PPTP VPN connection on the Xiaomi Mi Router 4A router is straightforward — simply enter the server address, username, and password for your VPN subscription. However, it is important to note that PPTP is significantly less secure than modern protocols (such as OpenVPN or WireGuard) due to known encryption vulnerabilities. We recommend using PPTP only for bypassing geo-blocks or accessing non-confidential resources where maximum data protection is not a priority. For tasks requiring confidentiality (e.g., handling financial data), other solutions are preferable.

Log in to the router's web interface at 192.168.31.1 or in the MiWiFi application.

Go to the Advanced section, to the VPN tab, then click Add service.

Specify VPN connection parameters:
  • Name - custom connection name
  • Protocol type - PPTP
  • Server - the connection server, the list of servers can be found in readme.txt in the subscription archive
  • Username and Password - the login and password of the subscription, can be found in readme.txt in the subscription archive

Click on Connect.

Use the switch to connect automatically when the router is powered on.

You can configure the ability to use a VPN only for individual devices connected to your router. To do this, turn the Smart VPN switch to the right, click Traffic by device and add the desired device from the list (or explicitly specify the MAC address of the device). After that, only the network devices you added will use the VPN channel.
