How to setup OpenVPN on Linux

Setting up VPN-connection via OpenVPN protocol on Linux is rather simple, as OpenVPN client is included to the most of popular distribution kits of this operating systems. Create OpenVPN folder in your Home catalogue.

After paying the order you will receive by email an archive with configuration files. Extract the files with .ovpn extension from this archive and place it into newly created OpenVPN folder.

Note: if you need to setup only TCP or UDP connections, please use files from tcp-ovpn or udp-ovpn folders. If in doubt - do not pay attentions on these folders.

Click on Dash, Search for Terminal and open it.

Go to OpenVPN folder - in terminal type command cd OpenVPN and hit Enter.

To list files, type command ls.

To establish VPN-connection launch the OpenVPN application with the required configuration file: for example, type sudo openvpn USA, New York us3.ovpn to connect to the VPN-server in New York.

Note: for quick set file name you can press Tab after typing the first few letters of the name.

The terminal displays information about the connection, the successful connection is indicated by Initialization Sequence Completed.

To break VPN-connection press Ctrl-C.
